What is Ultem plastic and what’s the difference between Ultem 1000 and 2300?

Ultem plastic is a new kind of engineering plastic that has been developed for the marine industry, and mainly for some sailing yachts. Unlike the most standard marine plastics, Ultem is 30% lighter and has the same or higher strength characteristics, as well as resistance to corrosion, or even water and UV rays.

If you’re looking for the strongest plastic, Ultem is your best bet. Also known as Polyetherimide, the Fluidized Composite or GE’s Lexan, it had superior impact strength. Ultem 1000 has an impact resistance of between 5 and 9 thousand pounds per square inch making it a top choice for outdoor applications. Ultem 2300 has slightly less impact resistance at 3 to 6 thousand psi but its transparency makes it ideal for indoor use. They’re both high-performance plastics with similar mechanical properties but each has different strengths depending on application needs.

ULTEM 1000 material

Ultem 1000 is a polyetherimide, amorphous engineering plastic produced by the Ultra-Certified Plastics division of the A. Schulman Inc. manufacturing and distribution group. It is often used in applications where flame retardant properties are useful, such as computer housings, controllers and aircrafts where there is potential for fire or electrical malfunction. The advanced molecular structure which gives Ultem 1000 its flame resistant characteristics also gives it excellent physical strength and performance characteristics which separate it from other engineering plastics on the market.

Ultem 1000 is a polyetherimide engineering plastic. It has high heat resistance and good mechanical properties, such as tensile strength, flexural strength, impact strength and low coefficient of friction.

Ultem 1000 is used for high temperature applications, such as for aircraft engine components and exhaust systems. It can also be used for nuclear power plants, where it serves as a nuclear fuel cladding. It’s also used in the construction of light-weight sports equipment, medical devices, rocket engines and other high-performance applications.

Ultem 1000 has an operating temperature range of -100 degrees to +300 degrees Celsius.

ULTEM 2300 plastic

Ultem 2300 is a thermoformable Polyetherimide (PEI) resin produced by the polymerization reaction between tetrafunctional acrylates and difunctional diacids. You need to know Ultem 2300 material properties and datasheet before use the plastic.

Ultem 2300 is an engineering thermoplastic. It’s a good choice for applications where you need a material that can be easily machined. It’s also easy to work with because it has a high heat resistance and a high strength-to-weight ratio. This makes it an excellent choice for use in the medical industry. It can be used in medical devices, laboratory equipment, electronics, sports equipment and other products that require a strong, heat-resistant plastic.

PEI GF30 is a tough, transparent engineering plastic with high tensile strength and toughness. It is suitable for mechanical parts that require high strength and abrasion resistance. In the chemical processing industry, it can be used for chemical reaction vessels, fermentors, storage tanks and piping. This engineered plastic has a high heat deflection temperature (HDT) of 158 degrees Fahrenheit (70 degrees Celsius) and a relatively low coefficient of thermal expansion. Ultem is noted for its chemical resistance to nearly all inorganic and organic chemicals, except strong oxidizers or chlorinated solvents.

Ultem 1000 and Ultem 2300 are both high-performance engineering plastics that provide the durability, impact resistance, stiffness and thermal properties necessary for permanent use in engineering applications. Applications include equipment cases, windows, watercraft hulls, product casings and more. With both materials offering similar performance capabilties and industrial design flexibility, it comes down to cost as well as choice of material color. Material 1000 is generally easier to machine due to its lower heat distortion temperature rating than that of Ultem 2300.
