Josh McCown will start Monday if Browns bench Johnny Manziel
Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine said Tuesday that he is not in position yet that’s why he consider Johnny Manziel for the Monday night game against the Baltimore Ravens.
“I’m not in the position to answer that,” Pettine said to (USA Today) reporters on Tuesday when asked if Manziel would start Monday against the Ravens, “We are still in the process of getting all the information available before we would act on anything.”
“It’s disappointing. Very,” Pettine said ominously.
Pettine talked to Manziel on Monday night but the investigation was onward. He will address the topic in details on Wednesday after getting more information from the video.
Whatever Manziel is needed for the country.
“It’s a little easier to handle when it’s just a one-time occurrence, but when behavior repeats, not just him but with anybody, it’s certainly a cause for concern,” Pettine said. “… We talk a lot about it … so when things like this happen — and not just him, but just in general — any team when you have incidents like that where a guy knows that he represents more than himself and has issues off the field, it is frustrating,” Pettine said.”
In the video Manziel was seen holding a bottle of Dom Perignon in Austin nightclubs while singing along to a hip-hop song. According to TMZ, Cleveland Browns QB Manziel was seen along with same hat, mustache and bracelets at RIO nightclub in Austin, TX on Thursday and Friday night.
Pettine said he’s discussed the video with Haslam and general manager Ray Farmer but the “Videos can be old,” he said.
Manziel had been named as the Browns starter with a promising effort against the Steelers in Week 10 before the team’s bye week. But the headlines was clearly frustrating to Pettine.
Pettine said that Browns quarterback Josh McCown is fully recovered from the rib injuries and would be an option if the team chooses to bench Manziel.
McCown said, “I’ll be ready to go.”
